City Of SeaTac Administration and Finance Committee August 12 2021

Summary:

This is the packet for the City Of SeaTac’s Admin & Finance Committee. I try to tell people how differently each City runs and if you don’t have time to watch the meetings you can still see it from their packets.

In this meeting, they displayed a vendor proposal on hybrid meetings (ie. after we return to City Hall, still allowing Zoom participation.) They show a vendor quote. So now we have at least some idea of the cost–that’s an advantage of watching other Cities–you can learn from them.

Another thing: they had an ARPA discussion which was -very- different to ours. Both totally legal approaches.

And: Look at their financial reporting near the end. They get that kind of reporting detail EVERY MONTH. Even if accounting is not your thing, you can see how helpful it is to have that kind of information. People roll their eyes when I go on about ‘accounting software’, but it makes it much easier to make good decisions.

Finally: Look at all the MONEY. They have multiple sustainable sources of revenue from the airport. -Plus- they get one-time money from all the Port’s airport construction projects.

That last detail matters for DM (aside from envy) The City Of SeaTac gets so much money from those construction projects, we have to keep at least one skeptical eye on their participation and commitment to controlling airport expansion (the SAMP.) I believe that their government cares about the health of their residents. BUT whenever there is -that- much one time money in play, one cannot ignore the possible conflict of interest.
